Old Friends Reconnected & New Friends Made
Chloe Kono
This is an exciting month! Not only is it my birthday month, it turns out to be a month of celebrating friendship, too! I have reconnected with Sandra and Alfonso from the Cactus Gallery, who have been supportive of my making for many years and I cannot thank them enough for what they do, not only for me but for numerous makers of all kinds of media.
It has been forever since I’ve participated in a show for obvious reasons but finally, DUN DUN DUNNNNNNN!!!!!! I am beyond thrilled to be one of the 40 artists showcasing in the upcoming Cactus Gallery online group show on the 20th, and you are invited!!
The theme of the show is friendship, and what it really means to us. I personally can't wait to look at everybody's interpretation.
And for me, after a year of not being able to see and hug my friends, the pain from the lack of joy and stimulation resulting from that is immense.
So here is my take.
Title: Embrace
Materials: copper, sterling silver, stainless steel, brass, lapis lazuli, tourmalated quartz
The essence of friendship to me is the complete embrace of our whole being.
The smile we wear when we see each other.
The tears we shed when we break our hearts.
The numerous inside jokes.
The deep dark secrets.
The admiration of our strengths as well as the acceptance of our flaws. The fuel we use to battle our own demons.
A special space we occupy in each other's mind, and the unbearable void when we aren't in each other's lives.
I hope that the temporary physical boundaries we have had to set up in order to get through this pandemic, and the pain from all aspects of it will somehow bring us all closer together than we’ve ever imagined.
Please mark the date, and go to the link below to see what other artists’ creations are, and reach out to Sandra for pre-sale information and pricing inquiry.
In addition, I have also made some new friends! Special thanks to Karen, Gwen and Cathy from the Creative Arts Group, who are welcoming me as one of their represented artists of the gallery located in Sierra Madre. Their organization offers different art classes for all ages! From ceramics, drawing and painting, jewelry making, and enameling. You name it! These classes are for all ages no matter your level and experience. Due to Covid, the classes are now available outdoor and/or online!
Hope we are all seeing the light at the end of the looooooooooong crappy tunnel, and we get to hug each other real soon!! Meanwhile, stay safe, stay sane, stay flexible.
